Walla Walla is not only known for great wine and terrific cuisine, it also supports a thriving art scene as well as great outdoor activities. Be sure to check out everything that is happening during your visit at the Tourism Walla Walla website.
Walla Walla has garnered a reputation as a mecca for art and artists, evident in the amount of public art on Main Street and also on Whitman Campus. Many artists have moved here both for the community and the physical beauty. However, while there is a lot of art being made in the valley, there are very few (if any) stand alone art galleries in downtown Walla Walla. If they exist, they do not keep regular hours. Your best bet is to talk to people once you get here and have them suggest a tour that will include wineries showing fine art, private appointments and our two frame shops. As a community, we are actively trying to change this for our art visitors.
On the first Friday of each month, venues with art stay open later and welcome visitors. ArtWalla keeps a list of who is showing where.
Every May, Walla Walla hosts The Balloon Stampede, now in its fourth decade. This is a great family weekend with the highlight event, “Nite Glow” held at the Walla Walla Community College. Unfortunately, until now there has not been a service offering balloon rides to visitors (May 2014).
